Black Spanish Turkey

Black Spanish Turkey (Heritage)

Our Heritage Black Spanish Turkey is a heritage breed, admitted to APA standard in 1874. It is one of the first to be developed from Native American stocks. In fact, it is believed to be the same breed the Pilgrims feasted on during their first Thanksgiving. This breed is well-suited for foraging . They are also one of the naturally reproducing breeds of turkeys.

Broad Breasted Bronze Turkey

Broad Breasted Bronze Turkey

Much like the Broad Breasted White, the Bronze is still as large and meaty as its counterpart. Because of its size it's hard for this breed to reproduce. Its size makes it the perfect bird to raise on your own for holiday gatherings. Turkeys reach mature weight at around 20 weeks.

Chocolate Turkeys (Heritage)

Chocolate turkeys were popular in the Southern United States before the Civil War. At present time they are quite rare. Their name describes their unique colored plumage and shanks, not the flavor of their meat. Don't get us wrong, these turkeys are tasty, just not chocolate flavored! They are mostly all black birds with a minor tweak in genetics that create their chocolate feathers. Poults exhibit a white face but quickly outgrow those early appearing feathers.

Midget White Turkey (Heritage)

The Midget White Turkey is a small, broad-breasted variety of fowl which looks like a miniature version of a commercial Broad Breasted White turkey. The Midget White was originally developed for the smaller turkey market in the early 1960s by Dr. J. Robert Smyth at the University of Massachusetts, and then later by Dr. Bernie Wentworth at the University of Wisconsin. This small turkey was developed by crossing a commercial Broad Breasted White Turkey and an exhibition Royal Palm. Today the breed is considered rare and is listed as 'watch' by The Livestock Conservancy.

Royal Palm Turkeys (Heritage)

The Royal Palm Turkey is a remarkably attractive bird, displaying some of the nicest colors of all turkey varieties — with bright white feathers banded with metallic black. This contrast is truly radiant. The Royal Palm is not a common variety and is available in limited supply. Royal Palm Turkeys are relatively small compared to other turkey breeds.

White Holland Turkey (Heritage)

White Holland Turkeys have wide breasts and short legs, and were originally an important commercial bird in the U.S. in the early 20th century, but they have since been replaced by faster growing and larger varieties. Today the White Holland Turkey is considered a Heritage breed and is very rare — listed as threatened by the Livestock Conservancy — and mostly kept by exhibition breeders.

While the name implies the breed has European or Dutch origin, there is little information confirming that claim. It is believed to have originated from crosses of white European turkeys imported to North America. The Holland  was first recognized by the American Poultry Association and accepted into the American Standard of Perfection in the U.S. in 1874.
