Olive Egger
Olive Eggers are an exciting breed of chickens that typically lay various shades of olive colored eggs. They are created by crossing a dark brown egg layer with a blue egg layer. We are experimenting with different breeding programs to offer a variety of chicks!
Our Olive Eggers were created by crossing some of our foundation stock of Cream Legbars, Black Copper Marans, Welsummers, and Blue Ameraucanas. Our F1 generation hybrids do typically lay an olive colored egg, however, the olive can be in various shades and the potential does exist to lay eggs of different colors. Though the plumage on this cross varies, 95% of our Olive Eggers will lay an olive-shade egg, varying from lighter olive to very dark "army green." For genetics lovers, the reason for that is our flock is a combination of F1s and F2s. F1s have a 1/16th chance of laying a brown egg instead of an olive egg, and F2s have nearly a 100% chance of laying olive eggs.
You may receive some chicks from each breeding program if you order multiple chicks, and you are not able to specify from which breeding program your chicks will originate. You will be delighted by the varied color patterns of these chicks and their beautiful and plentiful eggs.
